Tinnitus Management
Tinnitus is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears when no external sound is present. It’s a common condition that affects millions of people and can manifest as buzzing, hissing, whistling, or roaring sounds.
Tinnitus can vary in intensity and may be constant or intermittent, affecting one or both ears. It’s often associated with hearing loss, exposure to loud noises, ear infections, or certain medical conditions, but sometimes the cause isn’t clear.
While tinnitus itself isn’t a disease, it can impact daily life, causing stress, sleep disturbances, and concentration difficulties.
Here at The Hearing Centre we offer various management and treatment options, including sound therapy, hearing aids, and counceling, aimed at reducing the impact of tinnitus and improving quality of life.
Tinnitus Assessment
We begin our Tinnitus Management pathway with an Tinnitus Assessment. This involves conducting a full diagnostic hearing assessment which would include air conduction, bone conduction, uncomfortable loudness levels and tinnitus masking.
Dependant on the initial findings we will then potentially conduct a tinnitus match and tympanometry test to gain a full understanding of what is causing you to experience Tinnitus.
We then spend time discussing with you the outcome of the assessment and providing you with information on what we can do to assist you with managing your tinnitus.
A Tinnitus Assessment will take around 1 hour to and the charge for the assessment is £150. This can be booked online or you can call any of our centres direct. You do not need a doctors referral to access our service.
Management Options
After the Tinnitus Assessment we will discuss the on going management options available to you, these include:
Sound Therapy
Using a sound generator or masking device we work with you to build a program of sound therapy to help you slowly reduce your awarness of Tinnitus over time.
Hearing Aids
Hearing loss can often be a cause of Tinnitus, this is due to the brain essentially filling in the gaps of the sounds you can no longer hear, which in turn causes Tinnitus. By treating the hearing loss we can significantly reduce the experience of Tinnitus.
Congnitive Therapy
Where the above techniques are not suitable or where additional support is required we work in conjuction with a specialist therapist to deliver a bespoke congnitive therapy package to assist in desensitising you to your tinnitus.
