WhAT happens at my appointment?
Examination
Our hearing professional will discuss your previous hearing related medical history and then explain the procedure to you. They will then use a video otoscope to display the ear blockage on screen for you to see.
Procedure
The hearing professional will then perform the microsuction procedure, gently and effectively removing the blockage. We conduct the procedure at your pace and ensure you are informed of what we are doing at all times.
ASSURANCE
After the procedure is completed, the hearing professional will once again use video otoscopy to display your clear ear, discussing with you your general ear health and answering any questions you may have.
What causes earwax?
Also known by the medical term ‘cerumen’, earwax is a yellowish waxy substance that protects the skin ear canal, assists in cleaning and lubrication, and also provides some protection from bacteria, fungi, insects and water.
Earwax does not usually cause any problems, but if too much earwax is produced it can lead to a blocked and painful ear or hearing loss. It can also affect the operation of hearing aids, causing them to whistle, produce feedback noises and reduce the quality of sound.

How much does it cost?
We charge £45 for one ear or £70 for both ears in total. During the appointment we will remove any earwax or debris from both ears and show you before and after. If we don’t find any wax, we’ll complete a full ear health check, which costs £35.
Does it hurt?
Do you offer appointments to children?
Yes – Our team includes paediatrically trained individuals and we are able to offer appointments to children from the age of 5 years. Please call our team on 01530 234 284 to make an appointment for your child.
Recent ear infection, surgery or suddenly loss of hearing can I still use the service?
Please contact the team on 01530 234 284 If you have had any of the following so that they can discuss your case with you and advise on what to do:
- Current ear infection or have had one recently (within last 90 days)
- Had ear surgery (within last 90 days)
- Suddenly lost your hearing (within one week)
Where do you offer microsuction appointments?
Do I need to use olive oil before attending my appointment?
We would recommend using olive oil prior to your appointment. We recommend Earol Olive Oil Spray and advise that you use for 2-3 days between 1-2 times daily before your appointment. If you have any concerns about the application of olive oil please call our team on 01530 234 284
