WHAT IS INVOLVED IN A HEARING TEST?

AUDIOGRAM HEARING THRESHOLD TESTING
To test how sensitive your hearing is at a range of different frequencies, you will listen to a series of pure tones and press a button each time a sound is heard. This type of tests helps us to see whether you are having any trouble hearing certain frequencies.
TYMPANOMETRY AND ACOUSTIC REFLEX HEARING TESTING
These tests are designed to test the mobility of the eardrum, the middle ear’s response to sound stimuli and the overall condition of the middle ear. Results from these tests can show us whether you have any abnormalities around pressure in the ear or conductive hearing loss.
SPEECH HEARING TESTS
We carry out a variety of speech tests, including the latest advancement in benchmarking speech-in-noise testing, called LISN-S PGA. Speech tests will involve you repeating words that have been spoken to you, to see how well you recognise them.
Results from these tests will help us to see how any hearing loss you are experiencing affects you in both loud and quiet environments. This, in turn, allows us to make the most accurate recommendations for management and treatment of any conditions.
HEARING TEST RESULTS
Once we have carried out all of the hearing tests required to provide the most accurate picture of how your hearing is working, we will be able to give you specialist advice about whether any treatment is required. In most cases, we are able to recommend treatment and management solutions that we can either book you back in for at a time convenient for you, or which you can take home with you on the same day.
